Standard Life identifies buy-to-let-lifestyle

Standard Life Bank has identified a growing trend in the property market – the buy-to-let lifestyle.

Standard Life Bank has identified a growing trend in the property market – the buy-to-let lifestyle.

A survey carried out by the bank shows that a growing number of people are using buy-to-let to fund a better standard of life.

Andrew Boddie, head of marketing at Standard Life Bank, said: "Our survey revealed that a quarter of all respondents are earning up to £200 more than their mortgage commitments every month, 27 per cent are earning between £200 and £500 extra and 13 per cent are earning up to £1,000 each month."

Standard Life Bank states that 17 per cent of the 500 landlords contacted use revenue from letting to go travelling, ten per cent use it to reduce their working hours and ten per cent use it to set up their own business.

Mr Boddie adds: "Earnings on successful buy-to-let projects can be significant and provide landlords with income to change their lives - and with one in five already reporting that they are benefiting in this way, we expect to see this number rise as more people use their property to embrace a more flexible lifestyle."

Standard Life Bank, originally established in 1998 has 375,000 mortgage and savings customers and it's total mortgage lending is around £10 billion.
