Citizens Advice looking to extend IFA pilot

Citizens Advice Bureaux is looking to extend a success pilot that helped people on low or middle incomes gain free advice from an independent financial advisor (IFA).

Citizens Advice Bureaux is looking to extend a success pilot that helped people on low or middle incomes gain free advice from an independent financial advisor (IFA).

The charity found that the main areas people needed information on were endowment mortgages, which around a quarter of people using the trial enquired about.

More than three quarters (77 per cent) of those who used the service said that they had found them to be "very good".

Teresa Pritchard, director of policy at Citizens Advice, said: "The pilot has demonstrated beyond doubt that there is a real need for generic financial advice among people on low to middle incomes that current provision has failed to meet."

She added that the scheme had shown that IFAs could also work with Citizens Advice successfully on a pro-bono basis to offer free guidance.

Citizens Advice also states that 83 per cent of people who sought help as part of the scheme were owner occupiers.

The charity offers free advice on a range of legal and finance issues and has 21,000 volunteers in over 3,400 sites across the UK.
